I build websites, and think a little too much about how people find them.

The short version

I got into websites a slightly backwards way.

Most developers start with code. I started with a blog, and got obsessed with a much simpler question: why does Google show some pages and bury others? That question turns out to be most of what SEO is, and once you start noticing it, it’s hard to stop.

Chasing it taught me keyword research, search intent, and enough technical SEO that building the actual website started to feel like the obvious next step. So I learned that too, WordPress at first, because that’s where the client work was.

These days there’s rarely a clean line between the two. I’ll open Search Console in the middle of a build just to check whether a page is even worth shipping.

Most of it comes down to the same thing: bringing a business onto the web properly, and making sure people can actually find it once it’s there.

A little more about me

Himal Poudel, on a trip

I’m in Kathmandu, currently in my 8th semester of a BSc. CSIT degree, freelancing since 2022 alongside classes. Most of what pays the bills is web development and SEO work for small businesses around the city: a hotel, an education consultancy, a magazine, and a few others.

Outside of that, I’m still the same person who started a blog because I wanted people to actually read it. I’d like to get back to writing properly at some point, once the current list of things to build gets a little shorter.
